Save the Scraps | Episode 1 | DIY Africa Appliqué Sweater

African Print Fashion, Scrap Fabric Project, Africa, African PrintHello Everyone! Today’s post is all about a new series I’m starting, where I’ll be using my scrap and remnant fabric to create different projects. In episode 1, video below, I talk about how I made my Africa appliqué sweater. I’m in love with this sweater, I’ve already worn it multiple times. Soon, I’m going to have to make more so I don’t wear this one out. I also plan to make some t-shirts with the appliqué so that I can enjoy this casual stylish design when the weather starts to warm up.

Do you save your scrap and remnant fabric or do you toss them?

…There’s a sneak peek of next weeks tutorial at the end of the video.

Monde’s tutorial can be found here

Sweatshirt can be found here, I ordered a medium.

Thank you ! You have taken out the fear factor out of appliqué !!!!! I can finally make the projects I thought were out of reach !

Kudos to you for supporting other women You-tubers and giving credit where credit is due !

Re-purposing is part of the African Diaspora’s culture and tradition ! ! Don’t throw those scraps away ! Think quilts, trims,…….!

You already are honoring it by using it to make pockets, necklaces and now this appliqué ! You can always donate the scraps to art schools, children centers, quilting clubs…… if it gets too much…… and pass on the blessing ! LOL!!!

I have a 100 year plus quilt that’s still intact and giving comfort from my Great Grandmother from Jackson, Mississippi who quilted it from fabric from clothes, blankets…….

Blessings To You And Your Family

You’re welcome Tami. Quilting sounds like a wonderful idea, I never thought about that. When you speak about your quilt being passed down, it has my wheels turning now. I’ve used my other scraps in the past to give sewing lessons and jewelry lessons to my students, they had a blast going through my fabric. I’ll definitely look into more donating options, I think that is a wonderful idea! I do not like being wasteful, thank you for all the wonderful ideas!

Hello. I buy the majority of my fabric from Etsy.com, I purchase the majority of my fabric from these shops on Etsy: House of Mami Wata, Shop Kenete, and PFAB designs. For this particular sweatshirt I used left over fabric from a Dashiki shirt I made a while back.
