I’m sew in love with my second #NovaCoat! This project has taken my love for sewing to a whole new level, and I can’t wait to share all the fun details with you.
First, let me just say—creating fall and winter looks that I can style with sneakers is quickly becoming my ultimate mission. I’m all about casual comfort, but there’s nothing like a statement piece to take your outfit from basic to bold. This Nova Coat checks every box. Pinterest has been my go-to for inspiration (you can find my inspiration board here), and this coat truly embodies the comfy-casual-extra vibe I’ve been loving lately.
For this second coat, I documented my journey through a vlog, which you can check out below! It’s a behind-the-scenes look at the process—from pattern modifications to those little victories and challenges along the way. Spoiler: I sewed this jacket in 10 days spread out over five weeks. Yes, it’s a slow process, but that’s okay. I made this coat at the start of the school year, a notoriously busy time for me. Embracing the fact that it takes time to create amazing pieces has been such a game-changer. I’ve realized that it’s not about rushing; it’s about enjoying the process and celebrating the outcome—and this coat? It’s chef’s kiss.
The more I sew, the more I learn about myself and my personal journey with this craft. There’s something so fulfilling about taking your time to design and create something that truly reflects your vision. My creativity feels like it’s overflowing right now, and I already have my next piece to share with you all in a couple of weeks. I’m even thinking of making a YouTube video to share more about my process and how I’ve grown as a sewist. What do you think? Let me know in the comments if that’s something you’d like to see!
For now, I’ll leave you with this: sewing has become so much more than just a hobby for me. It’s a way to express myself, to slow down, and to create pieces that bring me joy. Here’s to many more comfy, casual, yet statement-making creations. Stay tuned for what’s next!
Sew the Look
Pattern: Nova Coat/Jacket by Papercut Patterns
Sizing: I cut the size 1, I sized down from the recommended size. My measurements are as follows: bust- 38, waist- 31, hip- 44.
Modifications:
- Added a 9.5″ by 6.5″ cuff (folded in half to create the cuff. My wrist is slim 6.25″, I wanted a more fitted look.
