I’ve Developed a Bad Sewing Habit

Happy Tuesday Everyone! So I’m here today to keep it real with you all and let you know about a bad sewing habit I have been developing over the past couple of years. In the video below I discuss the habit and how I plan to get my sewing life ALL the way together.

Do you or did you have any bad sewing habits? How did you overcome the bad habit? How are you overcoming your bad habits?

You’re welcome! Sewing has taught me so many life’s lessons. I recognize that I do this in other areas of my life too. Let’s stay encouraged though, we got this!

Not only are not alone I knew what you were going to say before I watched the post!! I know you don’t have any bad habits bad habits outside of remixing a pattern(which is not a bad habit) so I figured that must be it. I am working on the same thing. Glad I’m not alone!!

You are speaking to me! My first unfinished project is to get my pattern addiction organized and under control. It is really bad. Thereafter, I have to commit to one sewing project at a time and see it through to the end. The internet is both a blessing and a curse to me. I see so many things that I swear I can make…Lawd help me!

    You are not alone.

I know what you mean, Pinterest is where I find most of my inspiration and it also distracts me. We will do better!!!

Wow, I have been working on these shirts for some kids from my boyfriends church choir for about a year now… only three shirts. Finally on the last one and what you said about that “not quite looking like you imagined” that thing has happened. I am stuck on attaching the neckline and its been sitting on my table for weeks now, even to the point that I started working around it. Last night I was dreaming about possibilities of how to make it work, then I see your post today, must be fate saying Get on it, Girl!
Thank you for all your inspiration and beautiful ideas!

Thank you for sharing! I try not to “collect” things or let them get out of hand. However, I do have patters that I’ve bought with the intention of sewing them. Some, I have the material for and just never sewed it. Others, I didn’t feel like messing with certain parts of the construction (it wasn’t hard) — I just wasn’t motivated to do it. Then I have a recent “habit.” I see something I want to make, or I have ideas in my mind and then it’s like …which one do I do first?? LOL!! Anyway, how did I solve it? Well, for me, I have to be organized. If something isn’t organized, if my space isn’t organized, I don’t function well. So, I created a sewing project planner. I chose to write down the fabric choice/choices, vendors I liked or chose for that material, measurements, materials, etc. The other reason that I did this was because I bought a newer serger. And, I need to have the information from that serger (tensions, what types of presser foot, etc.)… I wanted all of that information in one spot. This may not help someone else, but it helped me.

Too funny! I within the last few months decided to STOP BUYING MORE FABRIC! (I’m reminding myself) Unless I have a specific plan for it, (I just finished 3 flower girl dresses, so I had to buy fabric for that, YAY!!) no matter the sale, the beauty or the “I might use this someday”. It has been so hard, but I have been working on fabric that I bought for my eldest daughter, it was on sale and “oh so CUTE!!”, who is now 14, and finally getting around to using that fabric for my youngest two daughters, who are 5 and 3, because the 14 year old doesn’t want cutesy pink and princesses, go figure.. So I get it, so much!
Plus, I had cut out some fabric for my 5 year old and had forgotten about it, so now my 3 year old gets new pajamas! So here’s to all of us fabric warriors, Cheers!!
Also, I have about 6 plastic bins of fabric to work through, so I think it will be a while before I will allow myself into a fabric store…
