Fabric: Mud Cloth Print (main fabric) and black lining (both 100% cotton) from Afrique Clothing Store
Batting and Fibers:
Pattern: SVETA DRESSMAKER, Crop Puffer Vest
Sizing: I cut the size Large. My bust measurement is 37 in., I referred to the size chart measurements to make my decision.
Modifications:
- The pattern calls for 3 layers of fabric. I cut the following: lining x2 and the main fabric x1. The pattern instructions calls for the reverse. I opted to cut the lining x2 because I used 100% cotton fabric and wanted to preserve my mud cloth print fabric.
- For the armhole I folded in the seam allowance and did a topstitch. When turning the garment right side out, I wasn’t able to turn it, so I had to cut the center back. Not sure where I went wrong with the instructions.
- Added a 8″ x 7″ pocket to the lining
Things to note/consider: The fabric directions wording was a bit heavy, but I was still able to navigate. Attaching the lining to the main fabric for the arm hole got a little tricky (see modifications for more detail). I should have used a walking foot when sewing over the batting, my threads kept bunching. Next time, I will bring in the shoulder length about one inch, the current shoulder extends farther down my shoulder than I would like (I should have sewn a muslin first).
Beautiful, love it!!!

I love it!!! Even with the challenges, it looks so good and totally wearable. Why muslin when we can problem solve on the fly, right? 🤣
