Sew the Look
Fabric: Batik/ Ankara/ African Print (100% cotton) from Fabric Mega Shop, similar one can be found here from one of my favorite shops House of Mami Wata. I used 3 yards of fabric for the skirt and 2 yards for the top.
Pattern: For the top I used my favorite top pattern McCall’s M7757, view D. For the skirt I used McCall’s M6706.
Sizing: I cut the size XS for the top. I sized down from the recommended size. My bust measurement is 37, according to the size chart I fall into the M size range. There are no finished garment measurements so I did a rough estimate by measuring the bust area. In the past I’ve cut the S, but this time I decided to size down one more size. After sewing both sizes, I now see that I prefer the XS.
For the skirt I cut the size 12. I like for my skirts to be 3 times my waist measurement. After measuring the width of the pattern, the 12 was the best size.
Modifications:
- I lengthened the top by 2 inches.
- I lengthened the skirt to 44.5 inches and created a 2 inch hem
- I omitted the back zipper and replaced it with an elastic back.
Styling: I styled the look with large hoop earrings and a necklace from Forever 21.
