My favorite season for sewing is here!!! I can’t wait to share all of summer sewing goodies with you all. Details on today’s maxi dress are below. Enjoy!
Sew the Look
Fabric: Kente Print DTY Knit from Fabric Wholesale Direct
Pattern: McCalls’s M7593
Sizing: I cut multiple sizes. Here are measurements, in inches, for your reference: bust 37, waist 29, hip 42. For the bodice front I cut the size 10 and for the bodice back I cut the size 6. There aren’t any finished garment measurements on the pattern so I measured the pattern around the bust area, which is also near the underarm area. For the skirt pieces I cut the 14. I measured down 9 inches from the waistline to find the hip area measurement.
Modifications:
- Extended the collar
- 1. I measured my neck, divided this number by 2
- 2. I added 25 inches to the number above
- 3. Lengthened the collar using the number above and cut the collar out on the fold
- I attached the bodice and skirt pattern pieces together to create one continuous piece.
- Stay tuned, I’ll be showing how I did this in my June makes YouTube video coming next month.
- I shortened the dress by 3 inches after sewing. Initially I measured the side length of the pattern and it was over my side length measurement. However, I decided not to shorten the pattern pieces, I wanted to wait and try on the finished dress.
Omg this came out soooo beautifully. I’ve had this pattern for forever and never made it because I Hate sewing with knits. But I’m definitely gonna try this…AFTER. Your tutorial 😂💕

This is absolutely gorgeous!💓💓💓Im thinking about using this pattern to make me a dress. Do you happen to remember how many yards you utilized?
Author
Thank you so much ❤️ I think I used about 2.5-3 yards, the hem is wide, I couldn’t fit the pattern pieces side by side
