Happy Wednesday Everyone. Today’s post is all about my duster coat with a bishop sleeve and ruffle cuff. Dusters are one of my favorite items to wear during fall. I can wear them to work with skinny ankle dress pants and ankle booties. They can also be styled with a fitted dress or jeans and a t-shirt, the styling possibilities are truly endless.
To create my duster, I used some gorgeous yellow knit fabric that I picked up from JOANN’s. When I initially bought this fabric I didn’t know what I would be making, I just new I loved the color and texture so I bought the whole bolt. There was about 7 yards on the bolt. I used about 3.5 yards of fabric to make my duster. New Look 6305 was my base pattern, of course I had to hack it to fit my personal style.
Modifications
- I omitted the collar, narrow hemmed the neckline
- I added interfacing to the hem and neckline
- Created a bishop sleeve and ruffle cuff, tutorial here, this time I used non roll elastic so I didn’t have to stitch over the elastic like I did in the video.
I need this in my life! The sleeves add an extra feminine touch. I live in the Caribbean, what airy, light fabrics would you recommend creating this duster?

Yes you do! I think crepe, rayon and jersey fabric will be nice and light.
