Happy Tuesday Everyone! In today’s post I’ll be sharing how I made my drawstring maxi skirt with some linen fabric that I picked up from JOANN’s. My favorite color to wear is yellow; so when I spotted this mimosa colored linen, I knew I had to make a two piece set.
This two piece set is perfect for this beautiful summer weather. The elastic waist in the skirt provides that extra comfort and the drawstring allows me to tighten or loosen the skirt as needed. I love to going to brunch and indulging in all of the food and mimosas so making adjustments to my skirts is always necessary.
In the pictorial below I explain how to create the skirt. You can find the video tutorial here.
Materials
- Fabric: For my skirt I used 3 yards of this Mimosa colored linen from JOANN’s
- 1 inch elastic (I used non-roll)
- 1/2 inch elastic (I used non-roll)
- Top: McCalls 7757, View C, lengthened 2 inches
Love love the two piece!!! Montoya pleeeeease do a diy for wide leg pants with the same draw string top as the skirt.

Thank you Shelia!!! Pants sound like a great idea, I have to study pants drafting some more. I think this drawstring would look great on pants, thank you for the suggestion.
This is a great quick and dirty tutorial. I’ll be using this soon. Thank you!

I love this skirt. I kept looking at this tutorial for many days before I decided to make it. Made it for a young lady to model in a fashion show at my church. Enjoyed making this skirt. Please do a video for this skirt. Will be making this skirt again and again.

Hi I want to know do I follow the same instructions as I am trying to make this for me and I am a plus size woman do I follow the same instructions. I am a beginner starting to learn to sew.

Hi Juanita. Yes, you would follow the same directions. When cutting out your skirt panel, cut yours out on the cross grain, this way you’re not limited to the width of the fabric.
Love this skirt and top, awesome job as always. Would it be possible to do this waistband with wide leg pants?
