DIY Halter Maxi Dress | McCall’s 7405 Review

Hello Everyone! Spring time is here and this DIY is perfect for the spring and summer. This past Friday was my birthday and I wore this dress. I took the day off work, went to the shop to my hair done, and I got a mani and pedi. All weekend long I was eating good. My birthday cards were filled with more coins than I expected so I decided to buy a new sewing machine.

I’m loving everything about this dress. I used viscose crepe fabric from Mood Fabrics to achieve this look. I love this fabric. The first time I spotted it online, I added it to my cart and I let it sit there for a few days.  When I went back to buy the fabric it was sold out, I was mad at myself. I kept checking the site often, hoping it would come back in stock soon. The fabric finally was available again and this time I did not hesitate to check out and complete my order.

Pattern Description: McCall’s 7405

Pattern Sizing: I cut the XS, View C

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, it looked just like the picture.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, they were easy and straight forward. Great sewing instructions for beginners.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like the neck line and the overall shape of the top of the dress. I also loved that I didn’t have to make two separate pieces (top and skirt) to create this dress. The sash is the perfect length.

Fabric Used: Viscose Crepe

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I did not add the side slit. In addition,  I changed how I cut out the pattern pieces. I only bought two yards of fabric so I had a make it work moment. In order to make it work I laid the dress pieces parallel. See image below.

Would you sew it again? Yes, I want to make a few more. I want to make the next one using a wax print fabric.
